SL–Petition: Support Account Corpses

Stop the visual suppression of account corpses!
Start: August 15, 2007  End: August 15, 2008

Stunned by the dazzling world of Second Life we easily forget that only those avatars can enjoy its advantages to the full whose account owners have permanently committed to them. But what about those thousands and millions who will be abandoned in the end?

We, the undersigned, demand that Linden Lab respect the dignity of all avatars. Linden Lab should not be permitted to let avatars – once created by loving hands – rot as so-called account corpses, keeping them alive artificially for advertisement purposes only. We expect Linden Lab to instantly discontinue this unavatarian practice. Those Second Life avatars whose account owners have logged out for a short or longer time have to be visualized in fact Inworld (We, the movement-for-account-corpses.de, have already made pertinent suggestions!). We also expect Linden Lab to take all conceivable actions* for the continuation of a dignified avatarian life.

* An additional option to help abandoned avatars might be adoption or sponsorship. In case of adoption the avatars would be completely signed over to a new account owner. In case of sponsorship the sponsor would pay a monthly fee to a foster account owner (from a low wage labor country, of course) so that he or she can reanimate the abandoned avatar. However, as long as Linden Lab does not change its unyielding practice of handling accounts, the movement-for-account-corpses.e has its hands tied.

The fight against the visual suppression of account corpses can also be supported outside of Second Life in so-called First Life. Those over there who are wearing an account corpses solidarity shirt designed by Muji Zapedzki are accomplishing an outstanding PR-job and, what's more, look super.

The movement-for-account-corpses.de is grateful and happy for any and all help and support. The contact person is Muji Zapedzki (muji at movement-for-account-corpses.de).
